January 31, Chornobyl NPP and Exclusion Zone were visited by the participants of International Environmental Forum “United for Nature. Agenda for Ukraine” held in Kyiv. It has been already the second forum held under the auspices of United for Nature.
The delegation was led by Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine Ruslan Strilets. Minister of Environment, Water and Forests of Romania Mircea Fechet, Minister of Environment of Moldova Iordanca-Rodica Iordanov, former Minister of Environment of Brazil Izabella Teixeira, the representatives of Embassy of Romania and embassy of Moldova to Ukraine, other guests were involved as participants of Forum “United for Nature. Agenda for Ukraine”
While welcoming Mr. Strilets at ChNPP industrial site, the SSE ChNPP Acting Director General Serhii Martynov reported that all facilities of the enterprise were operated in a normal mode without accidents or emergencies.
The visitors made a tour around New Safe Confinement, went to under-the-arch main space. Mr. Serhii Kalashnyk, Assistant to SSE ChNPP Acting Director General, told to Minister and other guests about the construction history and operation peculiarities of this unique structure.
During the tour around Exclusion Zone the visitors saw not only ChNPP NSC, but also “Duha” (from Ukrainian “arc”) over-the-horizon radar and Prypiat, the abandoned town of power-engineering workers. Here, the representatives of foreign countries had an opportunity to see with their own eyes what damages the Exclusion Zone ecosystems had suffered as a consequence of the russian invasion lasted on this territory during 36 days and nights in February-March 2022.
