From November 22 to November 24, 2022, the International Atomic Energy Agency (hereinafter referred to as the IAEA) mission worked at Chornobyl NPP site.
The mission was held in the framework of Assistance Action Plan, the document developed and signed between Ukraine and the IAEA following the visit of the IAEA representatives to Ukrainian nuclear sites and to de-occupied Chornobyl NPP in April – June 2022.
The main purpose of the Plan is providing Ukraine with technical assistance and support in nuclear safety and security area. Now, it is the third IAEA mission at ChNPP. During the visit, ChNPP safety issues, in particular, physical protection, nuclear safety and radiation monitoring are investigated and discussed.
“From the very first day of attack by russian forces on the territory of Ukraine ChNPP was invaded and was under foreign control during almost 40 days. The risk of nuclear accident, disruption of production schedules, harmful effect on physical and psychological health of personnel, broken and looted equipment – we continue to deal with all these consequences for the tenth month in a row. However, despite everything we coped to keep the power plant in safe condition.
Owing to the assistance of our international partners we have managed to resume the majority of activities which were carried out before invasion and to catch up with the schedule. Cooperation with the IAEA and accepted Assistance Action Plan assure us of the further support to the power plant by international community.
Such attention and help are motivating us to work harder and to do our best so that ChNPP will remain a safe site”, SSE ChNPP Acting Director General Valeriy Seyda comments on ChNPP and the IAEA cooperation.
