From 21 to 27 June, a delegation of the Clean Futures Fund (USA) led by Eric Kambarian, head of the Fund, and Dr Jennifer Betz, the Fund's lead veterinarian visited the Exclusion Zone and Slavutych town.
Since 2016, the Found has initiated and conducted a number of projects both in the Exclusion Zone and in the communities, affected by the Chornobyl disaster (Slavutych and Ivankiv are among them). Of the main areas of work, the following can be highlighted:
1. Project "Dogs of Chornobyl" — regulation of the population of stray dogs on the territory of Chornobyl NPP and Exclusion zone by sterilization and vaccination
2. Project for children of ChNPP’s employees with health problems: financing of surgeries, rehabilitation, and medical equipment
3. Assistance to retired liquidators of the Chornobyl accident
4. Implementation of joint annual training programmes with the ChNPP Radiation Safety Shop for US specialists in radiation safety rules.
Following the full-scale invasion of the territory of Ukraine by the russian federation on February 24, 2022, the Fund financed assistance to the enterprises of the Exclusion zone, the communities of Slavutych and Ivankiv, as well as the Chernihiv city in the amount of about $ 60,000.
Part of the funds provided by the Fund was donated as a financial aid to the families of four fallen fighters from Territorial Defense defending the Slavutych town and to the families of two firefighters who died from russian mines and shells. The remaining funds were allocated as financial aid for the purchase of tools, equipment and machinery for the enterprises in the Exclusion zone; as financial aid for animal shelters in Slavutych and Chernihiv towns; as cash payments to support refugees among ChNPP employees, etc.
On June 27, Fund representatives held a meeting with the top management of ChNPP, where they discussed the deepening of cooperation in the above areas as well as new projects both in humanitarian and scientific areas.
"We are trying our best to resume work at the ChNPP site, and the resumption of work between our organizations [ChNPP and the Fund — ed.] is another indicator that the plant is returning to work in full", summarized Valeriy Seyda, ChNPP acting General Director.
