From 26 to 28 January, 2021, an online training course/workshop was being held, organized by the World Association of Nuclear Operators (hereinafter — WANO) together with the Zaporizhzhia NPP. Participants included representatives from South-Ukraine NPP, Khmelnytskyi NPP, Rivne NPP, NNEGC “Energoatom”, and Chornobyl NPP. The purpose of the workshop was introducing to the participants the concept of “Operational Decision Making” in nuclear energy, developed by WANO on the basis of guidelines, best practice and recommendations of WANO members.
Chornobyl NPP was represented at the workshop by the Deputy Head of the Shelter (NSC) Operation Shop — Serhii Klepikov, and the Engineer of the Decommissioning Shop — Andrii Tortsev.
The three-day programme of the training was intense and consisted of both theory and practice. The theory included review of the concept of “Operational Decision Making”, and various decision making types and principles. The practical part was intended for working out decision making using specific examples.
«Although representatives of operational NPPs used to prefer “on-site” live trainings, now an online option is more favourable in the situation of pandemic. It allowed not only to communicate but also to find shortfalls when holding on line-conferences. Taking into account that my colleague and I participated in such an event for the first time, I can say that we have drawn valuable knowledge from it. During practical part we could cope well with all the fine points» — Serhii Klepikov commented.
«I really liked the training. If opportunities like this come up, certainly we will participate further in such events. The expertise of moderators, and hands-on experience of the operational plants' staff incorporated into examples of the practical part, – all this surely demonstrates the effectiveness of this form of cooperation», — Andrii Tortsev said.
Upon successful completion of the training course, participants received certificates.
