Since May 29 till June1, 2012 the scheduled inspection of the actual progress of work and the safety work execution in the frames of the project of the new safe confinement (NSC) construction over the Shelter Object was held at the State Specialized Enterprise Chernobyl NPP.

Within the examination the observation of the special operation conditions for the Arch Erection Area Platform was checked. These operation conditions were specified within the transfer of the Platform Area into the status of the Free Access Area, namely: the observation of the designed controlled levels, the arrangement of a strong radiation monitoring at the Platform Area, the availability of the reserved emergency kits of the individual means of protection, the arrangement of the buffer zone, the arrangement of the personnel and transport access ways.

The Inspectors of the SNRI of Ukraine learned the Novarka Joint Venture quality procedures within the NSC structures assembly activity and examined the quality procedures supervision on behalf of the SSE ChNPP.
Within the examination it was stated that the radiation protection of the personnel, radiation monitoring in the working areas, transport and personnel access ways and the other operation conditions of the working platform, upon the whole, meet the established requirements on safety and are in compliance with the approved decisions. In accordance with some revealed drawbacks the remarks and the recommendations of the drawbacks elimination were given.
Based on the results of the examination a regulation is developed, which is the subject to be executed by the licensee – the SSE ChNPP.
Within the examination the Inspectors of the State Nuclear Regulatory Body were informed about the progress of work at the Measuring Complex for characterization of the Shelter RAW before its commissioning and also they were presented the information about the progress of work at the site for the temporary storage of the technological materials generated within the construction activity at the Shelter site.

For reference: Novarka Joint Venture - SSE ChNPP Contractor –proceeded to assemble Arch structures in the second part of April this year. Because of the complex radiation environment close to the Shelter the Arch structures are being erected at the specially arranged site (platform) at a distance of approximately 200m to the west from the Shelter Object. Upon completion the Arch structure will be transferred into a designed position over the Shelter. The peculiarity of the Arch erection area platform is the arrangement the free access area at it. It simplifies the personnel to access the platform and minimizes the application of the individual means of protection. It, in its turn, ensures the effectiveness of work execution and reduces man-hour and doses.
