The "Ukraine - European Bank for Reconstruction and Development” Joint Committee meeting which was held at the House of Government in videoconference mode, with participation of the Vice-Prime-Minister of Ukraine for European and Euroatlantic Integration Olha Stefanishina, EBRD’s Vice-President for Policy and Partnership Pierre Heilbronn, the Minister of Environment and Natural
Resources of Ukraine Roman Abramovskyi, the Head of the State Agency of Ukraine for Exclusion Zone Management Sergii Kalashnyk, and authorized representatives of government bodies, has noted good progress in the implementation of international projects at the ChNPP industrial site.
The parties noted that significant progress in implementing international projects has been achieved due to the stable institutional environment brought about by the Ukrainian side, and close cooperation with the EBRD..
Currently, the activities performed at the Chornobyl site are focused on the commissioning of the New Safe Confinement and the start of “hot” tests at ISF-2 for further transfer of the spent nuclear fuel from the existing ISF-1 to the ISF-2.
Commissioning of the facilities constructed for the funds of the international community will mark the completion of just the preparatory stage, as long as the Chornobyl NPP decommissioning and the activities to transform the Shelter into an environmentally safe system are designed for a long term period.
The participants have agreed to continue fruitful cooperation in the development of infrastructure for management of radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel produced during the Chornobyl NPP decommissioning and Shelter Object transformation into an environmentally safe system.
