On December 3-4, the Chornobyl NPP hosted the delegations from China and Uzbekistan under the International Cooperation Development Program.
China
On December 3, the representatives from the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) started two-day visit to ChNPP in order to get familiar with the Exclusion Zone and its industrial facilities, and to hold working meetings relating to an opportunity of implementing future common projects and experience sharing.
The China National Nuclear Corporation is a large state enterprise incorporating over 100 companies and institutions and works continuously together with 20 existing members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering Sciences.
The Corporation works in R&D, performs construction activities and operates the facilities in different practical activities, particularly, in electrical energy generation at NPPs and in development and application of nuclear technologies. Besides, the CNNC maintains the international economic cooperation and deals with export-import operations.
The CNNC has commissioned its first nuclear power unit in 1991. As of 2015, the nuclear power plants being under the authority of the Corporation had been generating a half of atomic energy of China. Under the China Belt and Road Initiative, the CNNC designs and builds nuclear facilities in Pakistan, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Algeria, Ghana, and Argentina, and also exports its reactors and nuclear fuel to the tens of countries worldwide.
Uzbekistan
The visit of representatives of the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Ecology and Environmental Protection took place upon the request of the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Ukraine. It was conditioned by construction of the first nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan. The Government of the Republic considers necessary to study the experience of other countries with regard to NPP’s impact on the environment, performance of environmental monitoring of nuclear plants’ activity, and emergency response as well.
During the meeting involving technical specialists of ChNPP, there were discussed the potentially problematic issues regarding construction of future NPP, maintenance of its site, implementation and development of the system of monitoring, licensing of facilities, etc.
The guests visited a number of facilities located on Chornobyl NPP site, in particular, the Liquid Radioactive Waste Treatment Plant, the Industrial Complex for Solid Radioactive Waste Management, the New Safe Confinement, and the Interim Spent Nuclear Fuel Storage Facility (ISF-2) the completion of which is scheduled at ChNPP for near future.
As the Acting Director General of SSE ChNPP Mr. Serhii Kalashnyk pointed out, the Chornobyl NPP is highly interested and kindly ready to take part and discuss any ways of cooperation in technical, scientific and other fields.
