During September 16–20 at Chornobyl NPP and Exclusion Zone, a training course was provided to the specialists for nuclear safety and nuclear event response from the United States of America.
The training was held under trilateral cooperation between Radiation Safety Shop of Chornobyl NPP, charitable foundation called Clean Futures Fund (well-known for long-term project “Chornobyl Dogs”; USA), and Technical Resources Group Inc. (USA) as well.
The Technical Resources Group Inc. (thereinafter TRG) renders the services relating to radiation event response, provides training and drills for rapid response services throughout USA and many other countries. Annually, TRG holds about 200 radiological training, trains thousands of emergency response specialists in USA and abroad.
Almost for 10 years, TRG holds the advanced one-week training course under Radiation Specialist program. Clean Futures Fund and TRG joined together efforts to develop the Advanced Training Program for radiation safety which would help the radiation safety specialists to develop their skills and gain a better understanding of the consequences of radiation or nuclear accident.
“We sure that ChNPP personnel have valuable knowledge and experience, and we also know that they have to solve daily complicated ecological and operational problems at the power plant. These experience and knowledge are very important for international community and must be explored to improve knowledge and safety levels of the personnel responsible for radiation safety and emergency response across the world”, the CFF co-founder Lucas Hixson comments the program.
Under trilateral cooperation at ChNPP facilities and within Exclusion Zone, the US specialists gained the knowledge in responding emergency nuclear events and managing contaminated facilities and areas, and adopted practical professional skills of ChNPP personnel relating to above-mentioned subject matters.
“Chornobyl NPP always assigns the tasks of transparency, openness and interaction as the priorities. I believe that we keep this vector and prove it every day.
The good example of this is the arrangement of training relating to a provision of radiation protection which we are organizing together with CFF. It is very good when somebody refers to our experience as it seems to me that the work under extreme conditions, with different types of exposure and radioactive material is an unique experience of the Chornobyl personnel, particularly”, the Deputy Technical Director for Safety Oleksandr Novikov said.
