From 14 to 17 January 2019 inspection survey is conducted by the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine at Chornobyl NPP industrial site.
The survey has been initiated by ChNPP and is aimed at learning the possibility to obtain individual permit to operate existing building structures within the boundaries of ChNPP second stage, which function as the new safe confinement enclosing perimeter after they were reinforced and sealed.
The activities are performed in accordance with the requirements of Ukrainian legislation on the use of nuclear power and in line with the terms of the license series EO No. 000033 for the right to conduct activities on the “Operation of Object Shelter” in terms of the need to obtain an appropriate permit.
The project “Reinforcement and Sealing of ChNPP Second Stage Building Structures which function as the NSC Enclosing Perimeter” was completed in late 2017. In January 2018, the State Architectural and Construction Inspectorate of Ukraine certified the compliance with the design documentation and confirmed the readiness for operation of the completed construction project "Reconstruction of the Main Building of ChNPP 2nd Stage (Units 3-4) with Reinforcing and Sealing of the Building Structures which Serve as the NSC Enclosing Perimeter”. The customer – the State Specialized Enterprise "Chornobyl NPP", obtained the relevant certificate signed by the Chief Construction Supervision Inspector of the Licensing Procedures Department. Taking into account the importance of the project, 2018 was devoted to the preparation, examination and approval of the package of documents required for obtaining an individual permit for the operation of existing building structures within the ChNPP second stage, which serve as the New Safe Confinement enclosing perimeter after their reinforcement and sealing.
The implementation of the project provided for the construction of the necessary building structures, and the reconstruction of all available systems of the enclosing perimeter and monitoring systems for the Shelter Object, including ventilation systems, fire extinguishing and a number of others.
In the case of the Inspection's positive report, Chornobyl NPP will obtain a permit for the operation of building structures that serve as the NSC enclosing perimeter.
