Creation of an absolutely new mock-up of Chornobyl NPP industrial site is underway in one of the premises at the 3rd floor of ChNPP Administrative Building. The project was started 2 years ago and now it is at the final stage.
Initially, the mock-up makers planned just to renovate the old Plant’s mock-up, located in the Mock-up Hall in the Administrative Building. Of course, this mock-up had its zest - it showed how the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant would have looked like if the accident not occurred: with the completed third stage Units, with a full-flowing pond, two cooling towers and without the Shelter object and NSC Arch. However, by the time of the renovation beginning, he had served for 30 years, dilapidated and morally and physically obsolete. After examining all the pros and cons, the authors abandoned the idea of renovation in favor of creating a fundamentally new mock-up, reflecting a modern status of ChNPP and providing opportunities for interactivity.
The new mock-up is made on an acrylic sheet and is installed horizontally on the TV screen, on which an animated presentation of the arch construction is played. In parallel, in the slide-show mode, photographs showing how it happened in reality are shown. The presentation can be updated, and over time, each department can make its own, showing, for example, the Power Supply System, Radioactive Waste (RAW) and Spent Nuclear Fuel Management, etc. In addition, this version of the mock-up is good because the presentation can be done in English or any other language within just 10 minutes.

The new mock-up will show to the Plant’s visitors super-detailed facilities available at the site (up to rust on the metal elements of buildings). It provides an opportunity to depict everything occurring or presenting at the site, from one and a half hour Radioactive Waste transportation up to 4-year period of NSC Arch construction, from pedestrian routes to railway tracks.

The project can be called national, because Chornobyl NPP, as an enterprise, did not spend a penny on the mock-up creation! It was made for the money of voluntary contributions from the Plant’s employees.
At the moment creation of the protective cover over the mock-up is underway. Upon this work completion the project will be ready for presentation, which is tentatively planned for the Power Engineers' Day.
