The main works on erection of end walls (first stage) under the NSC enclosing perimeter project were completed at the Chernobyl NPP. This will allow sliding the Arch into its design position within the established deadlines.
The work scope included the reinforcement and sealing of the existing II Stage ChNPP (Power Units No. 3 and No. 4) structures, upon which the Arch end walls will be abutted, design and construction of new dividing walls within the existing structures of the Turbine Hall, Deaerator Stack, Block “V” and auxiliary systems of reactor compartment of ChNPP II Stage, as well as preparation of the existing surfaces for installation and attachment of sealing anchors.
Tens of tons of technological equipment and metal structures were dismantled, as well as hundreds of cubic meters of concrete were removed and transported out in order to start works on erecting the new dividing walls. The project complexity was dictated by variation of the actual conditions at the site from the initial design solutions, as well as by severe radiation situation and high dose rates for personnel.
The main works on erecting the end walls (first stage) were completed according to the schedule. This has allowed starting the early dismantling of crane runways of a heavy lift crane Potain MD 1100 which was used during the construction. Geodetic survey of the performed works and preparation of as-built documentation are underway at the present time. The crane Potain MD 1100 is to be dismantled during 7 - 28 October, following which the site will be handed over in full to NOVARKA for continuation of works.
At the same time it should be noted that the second stage of erecting the end walls according to the contract schedule is planned for the end of August 2017. At the second stage it is planned to install internal dividing walls at Block “V” and Deaerator Stack. The main scope is placement of concrete mix (about 1,500 m3), installation of new and relocation of existing technological and electrical networks, construction of a new roofing of the Turbine Hall at junctions with the NSC.

The work performers – JSC “Kievmetrostroy”, PJSC «Ukrenergomontazh», Ukrainian State Building Corporation “Ukrbud” and OOO “SK Ukrstroymontazh”.
This project has critical interaction with the Arch construction, as the NSC could not be commissioned until the end walls are constructed.
