During the January, the newly appointed Head of the State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management, Hryhorii Ishchenko, got acquainted with the work of subordinate enterprises, primarily with the activities of the Chornobyl NPP, the CERWM and the Radon enterprise.
In particular, at the industrial site of the Chornobyl NPP, Mr Ishchenko visited the dry Spent Fuel Storage Facility (ISF-2), the Liquid Radioactive Waste Treatment Plant, the facilities of the Industrial Complex for Solid Radioactive Waste Management, the turbine halls of the first and second generations of the plant, as well as ChNPP’s Units 1, 2, and 3 where decommissioning activities are being carried out.
ChNPP’s personnel introduced the Head of the SAUEZM to the details of radioactive material decontamination processes and the operation of the facility for release of materials from the regulatory control.
ChNPP’s operators reported on the work in the space under the Arch of the New Safe Confinement, and at the Shelter Object. The Head of SAUEZM participated in the working meetings of the Chief Engineer at the Main Control Room, and meetings with the plant’s technical specialists at the workplaces, which enabled the development of a number of protocol instructions during the working visit.
On January 23, Hryhorii Ishchenko visited ChNPP’s facilities which are located in Slavutych, including the Complex for Production of Drums and Reinforced Concrete Containers used for radioactive waste packaging, Training Centre, and Slavutych office. During the social and operational meeting, the Head of SAUEZM identified a number of priority tasks for the enterprise in the near future, discussed possible ways to implement them and thanked the ChNPP’s staff for the significant work which is performed by the plant’s employees on a day-to-day basis.
